YouTube Music: How Jayda Safiya Learned to Be Comfortable in Her Own Skin

At 19 years old, Jayda Safiya has had her fair share of love, heartbreak & insecurity. Her brutal candor on the latter is what makes her new single “Hate Our Love” a gripping experience. Whether she’s an emotional killer on “I Love You” or expressing her worth on “My Time” this musical genius has no issue wearing her heart on her sleeves.

“I think that’s one of the things that I do best,” Safiya tells YouTube Music on Saturday (March 5th) regarding her transparency. “It’s really scary because also as a Taurus, I find it hard to open up to people, I’m very scared to be hurt.”

Previously released records such as 2021’s “Winter’s Diary” and “My Time” were appetizers devoured by fans because of Safiya’s veracity towards relationships. So when it was time to put together her debut project, the thought of digging deeper initially rattled the R&B Cover Artist.

“It was definitely a little harder because I had a lot of songs for my EP,” she reveals. “I could get a little deeper, and that extra layer of depth is what really freaks me out. So it was a little hard to write the songs and be transparent and truthful this time, just ’cause I had to get deeper, but I’m really glad I did it.”

When first joining Imvu in 2020, young Jayda Safiya had no idea that going from a dance school to public dance performances, 20 second videos, and learning classical dance would curate her journey to stardom in the Imvu Music Industry. “I didn’t even know a music industry existed on Imvu…like seriously. Well that’s until I met my good friend Crystal. She credits her friend, Crystal Jay The Great, for guiding and helping her in the beginning of her career.

“Dedication is something that I think you just have to naturally have. Either you’re dedicated, getting the work done or you’re procrastinating, looking for another excuse. It’s one of those things that don’t get taught to you as a cover artist”

Shortly after her days in dance school and talent shows, she was signed to her first record label in mid 2021, Indie Records, at the young age of 19 years old after releasing her first single Winter’s Diary. “The number one thing being signed to an upcoming label on Imvu has taught me is that nobody knows what the fuck they’re doing. The managers don’t manage, and the artists don’t work so you might as well do what you want at your own pace and without the pressure ..”

After the musician left the label, she learned to trust and believe in herself more than ever before which prompted her to kick start her career as an independent artist. “If I ever sign to a music label on Imvu again, it will be a professional well-known label that can actually support me & help me grow further in my career.”

As any artist would, Jayda Safiya pulls from experiences of lovers and relationships past. “Love is what drives us. It’s the most extreme, intense emotion that we’ll feel. Love can make us doing amazing things and it can make us do really fucking stupid shit and I have written songs about each spectrum. Love is everything,” she said. The singer-songwriter acknowledges her musical superpower as empathy “I always like to think that it makes people feel empowered in their vulnerability and strong in their emotions.” Safiya adores the idea of connectivity and deems people as her “real passion.”

“I just want people to feel shit,” she giggled. “That’s it.”
